Jim Davies—My Comments Got SLAM!-med(repost)

Posted by borgra on April 5, 2007

(THIS ACTUALLY IS A REPOST. IT WAS ON ANOTHER BLOG SITE–BLOGSPIRIT–WHICH WAS FREE AND THEN ONE DAY THEY HAD THE BRIGHT IDEA TO FORCE EVERYONE TO PAY–AND IF YOU DON’T THEY DELETE YOUR ENTIRE BLOG, AND THIS IS ONE POST I STILL WNAT ON THE WORLDWIDE WEB TO STAY. SO HERE’S THE REPOST):

I tried to say this on SLAM! Wrestling. I got a reply telling me it’s the wrong email address(then why do they link to it?)and was given the correct email address. Yet to date my comments haven’t been published so I’ll say it here:

When I lived in Calgary I ran into a Mr. Jim Davies . At the time Mr. Davies was a commentator at CKXL-AM 1140 Radio which no longer exists

Anyways, Mr. Davies at the time besides being on CKXL also wrote a daily column for the Calgary Herald and later for the Calgary Sun.

Since I was very interested in writing he was very helpful and supportive giving me advice and tips.

He also aired each commentary I had something to say about and being the true gentleman he was…and I’m sure still is today, he never mentioned my name on air if I asked him not to.

While at the Calgary Sun every comment for his column I had made it to his Page 6 column. I entered contests to win record albums(remember those?)and movie tickets and whatever else the prize was.

He was such a nice guy even though I didn’t win he’d feel bad and sometimes he’d still give me a free album or whatever else was being given away.

Also, there was a time I worked at the Calgary Sun’s Distribution Department for 4 hours. Got fired.

A couple times I went back to get my cheque(Canadian spelling folks) for those 4 hours I worked but was told I didn’t work long enough and they don’t have to pay me.

One day as I was leaving the Calgary Sun building Jim Davies was there. He asked me what I’m doing there. Explained I tried to get a cheque and they said they don’t owe me anything.

He told me it doesn’t matter how long you worked by law they MUST pay you for the hours worked. I didn’t even ask for help and he said “I’ll take care of it.”

About a week later I got a cheque from the Calgary Sun for the hours worked. No doubt thanks to Jim Davies.

And when he went from the Calgary Herald to the Calgary Sun, during that time the movie Ghostbusters was out and the Calgary Sun was just beginning. The Calgary Sun had a “Herald-busters” t-shirt.

I never knew about that t-shirt until one day I ran into Jim Davies elsewhere and he told me he sent me a “Herald-Busters” t-shirt.

Either my roommate at the time stole it or it was lost through Canada Post…don’t know which, but it was very nice of him to send me the t-shirt.

Have no idea where Jim Davies is today but no matter where his generosity and friendship I will NEVER forget as long as I live.

Jim Davies if you’re reading this THANK YOU!

(so you see I said nothing bad. Have no idea why SLAM!Sports refused to post this in the Memories section).
